This is a copy after Raphael's famous painting known as "La Belle Jardinière," "the beautiful gardener," painted ca. 1507, in the Louvre, 122 × 80 cm (48 × 31½ in.). The Walters copy is only slightly smaller. Although Raphael's painting was commissioned by a Sienese patron, for most of its history it has been in France.
